Service
Academic Service
As a doctoral candidate, I served on the USC Annenberg Communication Graduate Student Association (ACGSA) board, first as the vice president and subsequently as the post-qualifying exams representative. In my roles there, I tried to improve our ability to collaborate and navigate our PhD program by creating community websites to share information about research, teaching, and professional resources. From 2008 to 2009, I also served as the Annenberg senator for the USC Graduate and Professional Student Senate (GPSS).
Community Service
For several years, I have been working with Community Health Councils, Inc., a non-profit based in South Los Angeles, on an evaluation using social network analytic techniques. We aim to create a strong academic-community partnership that creates good research while providing fast and relevant feedback to the community.
I'm also assisting the BBC World Service Trust, the charity established by the BBC, in using structural equation models to test the efficacy of their public communication campaigns. In particular, I have examined the Jasoos Vijay and Condom Normalization campaigns in India. In my work with the BBC WST, I have traveled to London, Uganda, and India to teach social network analysis and structural equation modeling to members of their Research & Learning Group.
